Greg Abel

Mr. Abel has served as the Court Executive Officer of the Sonoma County Courts since December 1994. The first combined Court Executive Officer and Clerk of the Court for the county. He has total budgetary and operational responsibility for all functions of the court system while has 179 staff, $17 million in annual expenditures, and $12 million in collections per year. He has also participated with judges in the judicial coordination of both courts effective, January 1997 and the total unification into one superior court on June 12, 1998 as well as developed proposals to significantly increase coordination of judicial resources. He was the Assistant Court Executive Officer from January to December 1994 and Assistant Municipal Court Executive Officer from July 1991 to January 1994.
Mr. Abel was an Administrative Analyst for the Sonoma County Administrator's Office and worked on management issues for all criminal justice departments from March 1985 to July 1991, including policy, budget, and legislative matters. He also served as Administrative Analyst from January 1984 to March 1985 in the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office and was responsible for budget and program analysis and supervision of the department's Accounting Unit. In that position he wrote two crime prevention grants that received state funding of over $300,000 per year for 5 years.
Mr. Abel received master's degrees in public administration and management from California State University, Sonoma, in January 1984 and a bachelor's in English from California State University, Sonoma, in August 1977.
