Jerry Eaves was elected to the Fifth District of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors on November 3, 1992, and currently serves as its chair.
During Supervisor Eaves tenure as Chairman, the County employees and management team has made significant progress in several areas. The county budget has experienced a positive turn around. The County's lease rating has improved from Baa to A3 according to the most recent rating by the Wall Street agencies.
Supervisor Eaves also serves as Co-chair of the Inland Valley Development Agency, and is the incoming President of the California State Association of Counties. He is on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties and the San Bernardino International Airport Authority and is past-President of the San Bernardino Associated Governments and County Transportation Committee.
In 1984, Eaves was elected to the State Assembly and during his 9 years he was a major sponsor of legislation for the County of San Bernardino. He authored legislation creating the state's first telecommuting project and sponsored bills against gangs and drugs and in support of law enforcement. His Assembly bill 419 allowed the establishment of joint power agencies to redevelop the Norton admissibility of expert testimony with regard to Battered Women's Syndrome. Supervisor Eaves also chairs the Inland Empire Legislation Caucus.
Supervisor Eaves also hosts County News & Views", a half-hour cable television show which focuses on government at work.
