Charles V. Smith
Supervisor Smith is in his first term on the Board of Supervisors for Orange County, having been elected to office in November 1996. He is the representative of the First Supervisorial District that includes Fountain Valley, Westminster, the majority of Santa Ana, portions of Garden Grove, and the unincorporated area of Midway City. Mr. Smith currently represents the Board of Supervisors on the following commissions and boards: Local Agency Formation Commission, Orange County Transportation Authority, Urban Counties Caucus, Orange County Public Library Advisory Board, and the MCAS El Toro Sub-Committee.
Before his election Mr. Smith served on the Westminster Planning Commission from 1978 to 1984 and on the Westminster City Council from 1984 until November 1996, the last eight years of which as Westminster's directly elected mayor. Supervisor Smith has served Orange County in many different capacities including President of the Orange County League of California Cities, Chair of the Orange County Transportation Authority, and the Chair of the Mayors City Selection Committee.
Mr. Smith graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and did graduate work at UCLA. He was a sergeant in the Marine Corps and a combat veteran of the Korean War.
