V. DISPOSITION HEARING§5.01 PurposeThe purpose of a disposition hearing is to determine whether the child should be declared a dependent of the juvenile court. [See WIC §360(d).] If dependency is declared, another purpose of the hearing is to determine the proper home for a dependent child. [WIC §358(a).] The primary goal is to permit the child to remain with his or her family, preferably with a parent. If the child is removed, the primary goal is to facilitate reunification and ensure that the child’s needs are met during the reunification period. [See In re Baby Girl D. (1989) 208 CA3d 1489, 1493.] |
