Examples of relief commonly sought in small claims court include compensatory damages, pain and suffering damages, specific performance of a contract or other equitable relief, confirming or vacating attorney fees, recovery of security deposits, or abatement of a nuisance. Examples of cases that may not be brought in small claims court include family law (including child support and child custody), workers' compensation, malicious prosecution, unlawful detainer, and most injunctions and writs.
