With the jurisdictional limit increased to $7500 for natural persons, you may see more claims filed in which the filing party remits or waives amounts in excess of the limit to take advantage of the informal small claims process. You should make sure, however, that a party clearly understands what he or she is giving up when waiving excess demands.
