Your court must do its best to maintain a list of interpreters for all languages that may require interpreting before your court. The list should include interpreters who are able and willing to aid parties for no fee or a reasonable fee. [CCP §116.550(b).] Failure to maintain a list or to include an interpreter for a particular language does not invalidate a proceeding. [CCP §116.550(c).] As a practical matter, it may be difficult to find interpreters who will work for little or no fee. Consider swearing in a relative or friend of the party to serve as an interpreter when you have the option. |
